Pinus mugo ‘Sherwood Compact’

Also called 'Teeny' in some lists, it becomes a dense, symmetrical globe; grows about 4 cm per year; foliage is dark green; introduced about 1960 by Sherwood Nursery, Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. who discovered it as a seedling. z2

This selection is perfect for smaller gardens where a pine with a globose shape is desired. It grows fast enough to be useful where miniature plants may not work. Meanwhile, it will not outgrow its location.

Seedlings from this cultivar have produced a number of ultraminiature selections.

Notice how good this cultivar looks when planted near a large rock and allowed to grow into it.
