Picea abies ‘Zajecice’

A dense, globose selection with thin branchlets comprising the spring flush of new growth; grows less than 2cm (1") per year; foliage is light green; originated as a witches’ broom near Zajecice, Czech republic. The name means “place with rabbits”.

When grown in poor soil, this selection is very healthy and will actually grow about 1cm (.5") per year. Typically a plant will have two foliage types with inconspicuous winter buds.

Picea abies has produced hundreds of witches' broom selections and few standout from the crowd. This is one of those few.
