BONSAI AT LONGWOOD GARDENS
Longwood Gardens, near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was once a private garden on an estate belonging to the DuPont family. It is now a well maintained public garden that is open year round. Architectural structures and water features are in many parts of the garden.

The massive plantings on the grounds are spectacular throughout the year as shown by these Picea abies 'Reflexa' specimens at the main entrance.

It has a world famous conservatory with outstanding seasonal displays. A small but interesting bonsai collection is maintained in an area of the conservatory. The following photos will take you on a tour through part of the collection. They are shown here as thumbnail images. Just click on each one for a detailed picture. These photographs were taken in 1990.

training in 1973.
Ginkgo biloba that was started in training in 1909.
Zelkova serrata that was started in training in 1909.
Pseudolarix kampferi that was started in training in 1960.
Zelkova carpinifolia started in training in 1977.
